Job Description This is a senior registered professional nurse position requiring advanced clinical decision making skills/judgment. This position is first, and sometimes the only, health care professional to assess and/or treat correctional prisoners. It is this position who determines the need for and timeliness of an appropriate referral to the physicianrovider. This position is expected to initiate and sustain life-saving care and measures as appropriate, as well as perform the full range of clinical nursing duties. This position is expected to exercise considerable independent judgment in selecting the most appropriate course of action. The nurse at this level may work as an emergency clinic nurse, an inpatient staff nurse, a mental health nurse, an infirmary nurse, or as an ambulatory clinic nurse. The employee may be hired for a specific area, but may be held responsible to move to any or all ambulatory/inpatient/infirmary settings within the complex/facility. The nurse mentors and coaches entry level RNs into their role and encourages development in professional practice. Position description Required Education and Experience emEducation/em Possession of a diploma, associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in nursing accepted for licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing. emExperience/em emRegistered Nurse P11/em No specific type or amount is required. emRegistered Nurse 12/em One year of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11. Alternate Education and Experience emRegistered Nurse 12/em Possession of a master's degree in nursing or possession of a bachelor's degree in nursing and six months of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse P11 may be substituted for the experience requirement. Additional Requirements and Information Possession of a Michigan license in good standing as a registered nurse. The Department of Corrections may screen out individuals who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony shall not be eligible for employment until one year after satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation. However, an applicant with a conviction for a violation of the controlled substance act or criminal sexual conduct in any jurisdiction, including the military, will be ineligible for consideration for employment by the Department of Corrections.
