The Department of Health in Pinellas has a OPS Registered Nurse position open in the Health care for the Homeless Program based at the Bayside Clinic in Clearwater, FL.

Job Summary- OPS Senior Community Health Nurse: The incumbent will evaluate homeless clients within the scope of Florida State and Federal guidelines, and Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County policies and the Nurse Practice Act using the nursing process, skills of interview, observation and evaluation to determine the medical, social and psychological needs of clients.

The successful incumbent will perform the following duties and must be professionally competent to perform in any multiple clinics and must be able to deal effectively with customers of various types of backgrounds and cultures:

  • Provides direct services to clients including: venipuncture’s, immunization, mental health screenings, pregnancy testing, tuberculosis testing and other testing or services which fall within nursing practice

  • Offers education and information on relevant community agencies and other services

  • Counsels clients on basic health promotion and risk behaviors, including but not limited to: communicable disease control, safety and anticipatory guidance

  • Advises and counsels clients on health promotion

  • Assists medical providers with clinic management, monitoring clinic flow and electronic charting

  • Responds promptly to emergency situations within the building

  • Completes assignments and functions independently

  • Follows policies and procedures, including lab orders

  • Meets productivity expectations for this position

  • Assists medical providers as needed

  • Assists in review of electronic laboratory results and provides follow-up

  • Documents all observations and actions accurately utilizing the electronic record, and the Florida Shots Registry

  • Complies with HIPAA guidelines and the Florida Department of Health's Information Security Policy ensuring client information is secure 100% of the time

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Clear and active license in the State of Florida to practice as a registered nurse

  • Minimum one-year experience as a registered nurse

  • Current valid Florida Driver’s License or able to obtain one within 30 days of employment

  • Access to private transportation and willing to travel to other locations and provide coverage as needed

  • At least one year experience working with an electronic medical record

Desired Qualifications:

  • At least three years of experience working as a Registered Nurse

  • At least one year experience working with the homeless population in a medical setting

Other Related Duties as Assigned:

  • Attends staff meetings as required

  • Attends training for personal and professional growth

  • Meets annual training requirements
