Department: Nursing Education


Coordinates and supervises the delivery of educational activities on assigned unit. Collaborates with unit managers to supervise the orientation process. Develops educational programs and processes to promote professional development for nurses throughout the organization. Assists in the implementation and continuing support of the electronic medical record.

Responsible for ensuring the very best patient/family experience by optimizing all customer interaction. Foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation and adheres to GHS and unit specific Service Standards.

Regional educator to educate on behavioral health (0.5) and addiction (0.5). This person will assist in educating the northeast region on most current trends and information in behavior health and addiction medicine.

Directly accountable to the Director of Nursing Education.


*1. Provides direct supervision to assigned personnel, assists with orientation and integration of new employees, and builds a sense of pride in employees and promotes good morale.

*2. Serves as a strong role model in professional practice as evidenced by strong relationships with staff and members of other departments, effective communications, appropriate resource utilization and sound planning skills.

*3. Provide leadership on unit, councils and committees.

*4. Directs individual professional development through mentoring, coaching and education.

*5. Communicates pertinent information regarding patient care activities and Medical Center operations to appropriate personnel.

*6. Participates in the formulation of nursing policies and goals as well as policies affecting other departments; communicates and interprets policies, procedures, and regulations to patients, visitor and staff members, as required. Promotes and supports concepts of positive guest relations.

*7. Establish, teach, and evaluate professional development activities.

  1. Efficient and cost-effective use of physical, financial and human resources.

*9. Communicates significant issues on units to Operations Manager in a timely manner. Assists Operations Managers by carrying out the process improvement plan and/or educational plan with staff completing documentation of remediation.

  1. Develops and maintains an effective liaison with physicians, patients, employees, and other stakeholders.

*11. Provides feedback to staff or managers for professional practice issues.

*12. Coordinates the attendance of personnel at internal and external educational programs.

*13. Provides ongoing education based on educational needs assessment, regional needs, unit needs, staff request and management request.

*14. Supervise annual unit based skills assessment and competency completion.

  1. Supports and adheres to the policies of the Geisinger Health System.

  2. Promotes effective public relations and represents Geisinger in the professional community.

  3. Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

Must be willing to travel between campuses in the Northeast Region.

RN with current Pennsylvania licensure required.

Bachelors degree in nursing or related field required, Masters degree in nursing preferred.

Public speaking experience preferred.

Certification in specialty area preferred.

Three to five years of nursing experience preferred in specialty areas.
