GENERAL PURPOSE: This position is responsible for providing nursing services under general supervision. The staff nurse renders professional nursing care to patients of specific age groups (neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatric) within an assigned unit of the hospital and in support of medical care as directed by the medical staff and pursuant to objectives and policies of the hospital. Nursing care will involve the use of the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the total care needs of the patient population from admission to discharge. The staff nurse must acquire knowledge of the mission of the hospital as well as the core values established by Verity Health System. MAJOR JOB OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Knowledge of JACHO and Title XXII regulations. Knowledge of scope of practice as defined in Nurse Practice Act. Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrate full command, both verbal and written, of the English Language. Recognizes signs and symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress or other impending crisis; initiates emergency action, directs others and summons assistance. Identifies actual or potential problems amendable to nursing intervention; including patient family in plan of care. Actively participate in Nursing Quality Improvement activities. Exhibits excellent clinical judgment utilizing the appropriate age specific nursing process as evidenced by; ability to identify patient care related problems/ outcomes and initiate problem solving. Attends all required safely training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and special job-related hazards. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Demonstrates the behaviors and actions that support Verity Health System's Values. REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing Requires current CA RN license Current BCLS and ACLS certification by American Heart Association Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Certification (NRP) Work Experience: Minimum 1-2 years Labor and Delivery nursing experience required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Complete fetal monitoring exam with 80% score within 90 days of hire. Knowledge of JCAHO and Title XXII regulations. Knowledge of scope of practice as defined in Nurse Practice Act. Possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrate full command, both verbal and written, of the English Language.
