Under the general direction of the Director of the Student Health Center (SHC), the Associate Director reports on a multitude of projects in order to promote a health care facility that provides a welcoming environment to a diverse student body population where their health care needs are addressed quickly and efficiently. Typical activities include, but are not limited to:
Incumbent will establish and communicate clear goals, ensuring effective use of available resources on a daily basis by managing the clinical operations for both San Bernardino and Palm Desert Campuses which includes reviewing the patient and nursing schedule, approving nursing absence requests, coordinating coverage and adjusting the scheduled appointments, as needed to provide a smooth and seamless experience for students. This will require the incumbent to provide direct nursing services to patients when there is a shortage and nursing coverage is needed.
The Incumbent will work closely with the Medical Chief of Staff in coordinating and attending case management meetings and consult with Counseling & Psychological staff to ensure appropriate integration of treatment plans that address the needs of each student.
Incumbent leads front/back office meetings to improve patient flow with a focus on student centered quality customer service.
Incumbent is responsible for the recruitment process of nursing staff and making hiring recommendations to the Student Health Center Director.
Incumbent reviews clinical staff skill-set/annual nurse competencies checklist, coordinates training, facilitates nurse peer review, conducts annual performance evaluations for nursing staff and provide feedback to staff on a regular basis when issues arise.
Incumbent participates in health center procurement decisions for clinical related purchases and the overall budget planning process.
Incumbent assists director in monitoring health center statistics in support of budgetary needs and forecasting for future clinical services.
Incumbent will act as liaison between Information Technology Department staff, third party vendor(s) and Student Health Center and will assist with supervision of the EMR system and ensure that monthly audits are performed in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Incumbent oversees, coordinates and directly participates in accreditation activities.
Incumbent collaborates with the campus Nursing Department providing internship opportunities and or rotation cycles for a select group of undergraduate and graduate students each quarter.
Incumbent will (in the Directors absence) attend all campus meetings as well as the CSU campus director/nursing division meetings and State conferences to remain current with trends and developments in college health administration.
Incumbent will chair the Health Center Infection Control Committee and participate in the Quality Improvement Committee and the Risk Management Committee reviewing incident reports and providing follow through.
Incumbent directly supervises approximately 13 staff members including licensed/unlicensed clinical support staff for the Health Center and Clinical Laboratory.
Incumbent chairs monthly nursing meeting and keep nursing staff updated on issues and changes in procedures and serve as a resource to nurses keeping the lines of communication open between nursing staff and other department units.
Incumbent establishes triage protocols and coordinate special programing and clinical services offered to specific population of students such as the Athletics Department, Coyote First Step, EOP and International Student Programs.
Incumbent establishes RN protocols to evaluate, assess and treat patients establishing an RN clinic on high volume days.
Incumbent plans and implements annual campus flu and other specialty clinics coordinating with all clinical and ancillary health center employees to meet the needs of students and staff.
Incumbent assists with in-service training and special programs. Facilitate orientation of new nursing staff members and student interns as needed.
Incumbent serves as the Safety and Preparedness Health Center Coordinator and chairs Emergency Preparedness Health Center Committee as well as conducts quarterly drills from emergency evacuations as well as other drills that will require staff and students to stay in the building.
Incumbent interacts regularly with campus Environmental Health and Safety Physical Plant departments.
Incumbent designs, coordinates and implements emergency operations procedures.
Incumbent maintains contemporary core competencies related to this position by attending conferences, completing continuing education units, reviewing pertinent literature, participation in professional associations and engaging in other professional development opportunities.
Incumbent participates in the Division of Student Affairs and University committees.
Incumbent will complete other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Qualifications:
Master's degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited university. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible health care management experience with three of those years supervising/managing licensed clinical nursing staff, including the design, development and direction of health related programing and services and fiscal management of financial resources.
Minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience is required.
Professional licensing as a Registered Nurse in the State of California, certification, and/or credential verification is required
Motor Vehicle Records/Licensing Check is required
Skills Requirements and Essential Functions:
Recent record of increasingly responsible professional leadership experience in a healthcare facility is essential along with the ability to interpret and communicate policies and procedures efficiently and effectively;

Familiarity with University and system-wide policies and procedures, especially campus policy manuals related to appointment and evaluation of faculty;

You have medical, dental and vision plans from which to choose coverage. You may cover yourself and your eligible spouse or domestic partner and children. You are eligible to enroll in coverage if you are appointed at least half-time and for more than six months. If you enroll on a timely basis, coverage begins on the first of the month after your date of hire. You also may enroll during any annual open enrollment period.
Medical Benefits - You have a choice of several Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), depending on location, or Preferred Plan Provider (PPO) insurance plans through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS)). You and the CSU share the cost of coverage, with the CSU paying the greater portion of the monthly premium. You may pay your portion of the cost on a pre-tax basis through the Tax Advantage Premium Plan (TAPP).
Dental Benefits – You may choose between two dental plans: a traditional indemnity (fee-for-service) plan allowing you to see almost any dental provider, or a "dental HMO" plan offering a network of dentists from which to choose. Currently, the CSU pays the full dental premium for you and your eligible dependents.
Vision Benefits – Vision coverage includes an annual eye exam, and glasses or contact lenses every other year. Currently, the CSU pays the full vision premium for you and your eligible dependents.
Cobra Benefits – If you lose your eligibility for medical, dental, and vision benefits under specified circumstances (for example, you leave employment with the CSU), the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1986 (COBRA) and the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1989 (OBRA) allows you to continue to receive health care coverage at your expense. You and your dependents can receive COBRA benefits for up to 18, 29 or 36 months, depending on the circumstances.
FLEXIBLE BENEFITS PLANS
FlexCash – If you waive the CSU medical and/or dental coverage because you have other non-CSU coverage, you can receive additional cash in your paycheck each month. You will be taxed on this additional income. Currently, you can receive $128 FlexCash per month if you waive medical coverage and $12 FlexCash per month if you waive dental coverage.
INCOME PROTECTION BENEFITS
Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD) – Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD) replaces part of your income should you be disabled more than 180 days, regardless of the cause. LTD is designed to supplement other sources of disability benefits, including IDL, Social Security, CAL PERS retirement or any other group disability plan. The plan pays 66 2/3 percent of your salary, up to a maximum benefit of $10,000 per month.
SURVIVOR PROTECTION BENEFITS
Life and Accidental, Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance – The CSU provides you with $100,000 of basic term life insurance coverage and $100,000 of basic accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance coverage. The CSU pays the full cost of this coverage; however, the value of any coverage over $50,000 is considered taxable "imputed income". You have the option of waiving coverage above $50,000. Coverage is automatic and effective on the first of the month after your date of hire.
ADDITIONAL CSU BENEFITS
CSU Fee Waiver Program – If you are a full-time employee, you are eligible each term to waive certain fees at a CSU campus for a maximum of two courses or six units, whichever is greater. You may transfer your fee waiver benefit to your spouse, domestic partner, or child, however, not all of the fees may be waived or reduced for your dependents.
CalPERS Retirement Plan – The California Public Employees Retirement System is a defined benefit retirement plan that provides lifetime benefits based on members' years of service, age, and final compensation. Full-time employees appointed for at least six months, or part-time employees working at least half-time and appointed for at least one year, are automatically enrolled in the CalPERS Retirement Plan.
Depending on hire and/or membership date, employees are placed in one of three retirement formulas. Each formula determines the employee contribution rate, and the benefit factor and final compensation period used to calculate retirement allowance.

You may participate in any or all of the plans. Each is governed by a different section of the IRS Code resulting in different rules and provisions.
TIME-OFF BENEFITS – (Paid Leave)
Holidays – The CSU offers employees 14 paid holidays each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and one you may take any time during the year.
Vacation – You earn two vacation days (16 hours) per qualifying monthly pay period. If you have less than 10 years of service with the CSU, you can accrue up to a maximum of 384 hours (48 days); if you have more than 10 years, the maximum is 440 hours (55 days). Part-time employees accrue vacation on a prorated basis.
Sick Leave – For each month of continuous service, you accumulate eight hours of credit for sick leave with pay. Part-time employees accrue sick leave on a prorated basis.
Maternity/Paternity/Adoption Leave – You are eligible for 30 days of paid maternity/paternity/ adoption leave starting within 60 days of the arrival of your new child.
