The Emergency Department Registered Nurse shall provide services to support the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC). The areas of support are to include; but not limited to: Critical Care, Medical/Surgical, Ambulatory, Perioperative, Burn Unit, Mother/Baby Units, and In and Out Patient areas of San Antonio Military Medical Center.

All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which CHSi is recognized.


This position is based in San Antonio, Texas.


Perform and/or provide direction and support for the following services:

  • Assists medical providers with medical procedures as allowed within licensed scope of work.

  • Demonstrate personal performance based on professional practice standards, relevant statutes, rules and regulations and organizational criteria.

  • Take and document all patient history and vital signs, assist with examinations and/or treatments, and report all changes in patients’ conditions.

  • Administer all medications and documents on the Medication Administration Record

  • Perform venipuncture and I.V. therapy, as approved by immediate supervisor.

  • Collect samples, specimens, and cultures as requested by Provider order.

  • Assist with daily triage/sick call, minor medical/surgical procedures, and transcribe all therapeutic orders generated by the Provider.

  • Initiate and document prescribed protocol treatment in compliance with company policies and procedures.

  • Management of multiple types of central catheters, including ports, tunneled catheters and aphaeresis catheters.

  • Administration and management of chemotherapy.

Required Skills


  • Must possess a current, active, valid and unrestricted license from an official agency of a State, the District of Columbia, or a Commonwealth, territory, or possession of the United States to provide health care within the scope of practice of a specified discipline.

  • Shall possess and maintain current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENCP).

  • Associates Degree in Nursing from a National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) accredited school of Nursing.

  • Shall have at least one (1) year of full-time experience in a Level I (one) trauma center or at least two (2) years or full-time experience in a Level II (two) or Level III (three) Emergency Department in the last four (4) years.


  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.

  • May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 15 lbs.
