Responsibilities: This RN will support the Mayo Clinic Child and Family Advocacy Program (MCFAP).

The position is supported by external grant funding for 3 years, with a possibility of the role extending further.

The role of the child abuse RN is to focus on complex care coordination for patients and families across the continuum of care.

The nurse reviews patient’s records and documents significant findings and events to share with physicians prior to patients appointments.

The nurse arranges and plans for clinic appointments and assures the appropriate lab work, x-rays, procedures and consultations are scheduled.

The nurse also implements treatment plans, triage phone calls, and facilitates communication across providers, settings, and caregivers.

The nurse provides emotional support and educational needs of patients and families.

They also provide needed resources for transitional care to home, school, and the primary care physician.

They will help with patient education and pre-exam developmental screenings.

The nurse also provides close liaison with other Mayo specialties, as well as local health facilities and primary providers for maintaining continuity of care.

It is essential that the nurse enjoy working with patients and families in complex medical and social situations and possess excellent communication and critical thinking skills.

Qualifications: Student or Graduate of an accredited baccalaureate, associate, or diploma nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN- formerly NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN or CCNE, at least one year of RN experience (within the last 5 years) in an applicable care setting is required.

If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting is required or, effective October 1st, 2017 one year of current LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.

All associate degree or diploma registered nurses hired into the Department of Nursing with a RN start date after September 1, 2010, must provide documented evidence of program completion of their baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within 5 years from the last day of the month of their RN start date.

Additional Qualifications: One year RN experience within the last five years preferred.

A minimum of TWO YEARS Nursing experience Strongly preferred.

Pediatric experience preferred.

Knowledge of pediatric population characteristics and desired outcomes.

Candidates must be able to work independently alongside a team of physicians within the Pediatric specialty.

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

Experience working in a team environment.

Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.

Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.

Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.

Demonstrated ability to use data for trend analysis and decision making.

License or Certification: Must obtain prior to start date:

Current RN license by applicable state requirements.

Arizona and Florida: Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Midwest: Basic Cardiac Life Support for healthcare providers- BCLS – certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date.

A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts, including your full name, must be attached to your profile to be considered.

  • American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)

  • Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)

  • Military Training Network

Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.

The minimum pay rate is $28.22 per hour.

Hours/Pay Period: 40 hours per 2 week pay period

Monday-Friday; Days, 4-hour Shifts (10am to 2 pm) – NOT NEGOTIABLE
