The Roanoke City Health Department is seeking a Registered Nurse to assume the leadership of the Family Planning Program serving as a nurse supervisor and clinic coordinator.

This full-time position is located in Roanoke, VA and is part of the Roanoke City & Alleghany Health Districts.

This position will be responsible for overseeing the Health Districts’ Family Planning program, providing related limited-service lab quality assurance, and serving as districts’ nursing expert for reproductive health.

This position will exercise line authority over multiple registered nurses and interpreters by training, scheduling, and providing formal performance management.

This position will provide direct and indirect client care as needed, oversee the delivery of care, and provide day-to-day management of the clinic programs to coordinate client care as designated.

The person chosen to fulfill this role may perform nursing assessments, lab tests, take measurements, develop/implement care plans, provide case management, and provide education to clients and staff.

This position will work in compliance with all agency, program, and other regulatory requirements and serve as a resource and mentor to staff.

This position will work primarily in a clinic setting, but may also provide off-site services as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.

Candidates must have experience and thorough knowledge of Family Planning, Reproductive Health, and clinic management.

Considerable knowledge of the principles of public health, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology, program planning, personnel management, and supervision or the equivalent is needed in this position.

Candidates must have the ability to gather, compile and analyze data; manage and evaluate team performance; direct programs and ensure service quality; implement change; organize multiple tasks; provide counseling; and prioritize work.

Strong critical thinking, conflict resolution, organization, and effective judgment abilities required.

Effective interpersonal and team-working skills required.

Excellent communication and patient education skills required with proficiency in a variety of communication formats including verbal, written, and use of interpreter services.

Current license to practice as a Professional Nurse (RN) in Virginia required.

A current valid driver’s license required.

CPR or BLS-HCP required at time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

BSN, MSN, or MPH preferred.

Experienced with providing immunizations to all ages.

Considerable supervisory experience exercising line and program authority over nurses in a public health setting or equivalent.

Experience with community outreach and population health services a plus.

Bilingual Spanish/English a plus.

*Position is deemed essential personnel during emergency or weather conditions.

Special Requirements
