Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment Current RN licensure in Virginia AHA BLS Certification Specialty Nursing Certification in either Nurse Navigation or Oncology within one year of hire in position Level and type of experience REQUIRED Minimum of three (3) years of relevant clinical experience demonstrating: Patient education, nursing, planning, case management or similar experience Previous experience in Oncology Level and type of experience PREFERRED Nurse Navigation or leadership experience Experience working in a NCI Comprehensive Program Experience within an academic, teaching hospital Education Required: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing Education Preferred: Master' Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing VCU-Community Memorial Hospital (VCU-CMH) Cancer Center is a Commission on Cancer (CoC) accredited community cancer center program. VCU-CMH Cancer Center has been serving cancer patients in the Southern Virginia area for over 27 years. VCU-CMH is a community outreach Cancer Center of VCU-Massey Cancer Center, it is an active member participating with VCU- Massey NCORP clinical trial program sponsored by the National Cancer Institute. VCU-CMH cancer program provides cancer prevention and education, screening and early detection, diagnosis, multidisciplinary cancer treatment, survivorship, rehabilitation and palliative/supportive care. Oncology nurse navigator is a major position: a. Coordinate individual patient in each step of cancer care, such as: i. New patient appointment and scheduling, obtaining pertinent medical records. ii. Facilitate staging procedure with laboratories, consultations, and treatment plans. iii. Collaborate with chemotherapy nurses, if patient on active treatment. iv. Assist patient on post treatment rehabilitation or palliative care. b. Identify the special needs of patient, including social worker for psychosocial support, dietitian evaluation or genetic counseling. c. Serve as patient advocate, interpreter, educator and counselor
