Advertised Summary Job Description

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is needed in a comprehensive Bone Marrow Transplant program. The NP will be responsible for the assessment and management of pre- and post-transplant patients, including diagnostic (e.g. Bone Marrow Biopsies) and therapeutic interventions, under a medical collaborative agreement. S/he will be responsible for developing, implementing, and tracking patient education efforts as it relates to related diseases, chemotherapy, as well as psychosocial concerns of patients, family and caretakers related to bone marrow transplant and the underlying disease. The NP will collaborate with Infusion Center nurses and staff in the care and treatment of patients receiving chemotherapy. S/he will complete patient's history and physical exams, review laboratory results and order appropriate tests, provide discharge instructions and patient education and monitor follow-up appointments. The NP will obtain consents, monitor pre and post procedure status of patients; develop care plans for patients; document history, orders, notes and ongoing evaluation of patients; assure quality of care and standards are maintained; and serve as liaison to referring physicians and external transfers. The NP will be trained to perform Bone Marrow Biopsies. S/he will assist physicians with related duties as directed and perform other tasks as assigned. Together with the Nurse, the NP will provide excellent, evidence-based care to this patient population.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Requires Master's degree or equivalent, plus 1 to 2 years of Oncology/BMT experience. Current New York State NP and RN license.

Must be able to adapt to flexible schedule and fast/changing work environment, and have excellent communication skills.
