The Shift Resource Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse with responsibility and accountability for the coordination of clinical activities and patient care on weekends, evening and night shifts. Develops and sustains an environment that promotes excellence in clinical practice and customer satisfaction, while striving for optimal efficiency, productivity and utilization of all resources.
The Shift Resource Nurse utilizes the nursing process, leadership skills and current evidence based clinical knowledge to assess the health needs of patients, collaborate with health team members to coordinate patient care, anticipate outcomes of nursing interventions, and set criteria for the quality of patient care. Provides patient and staff education, clinical supervision, and participates in unit based activities (quality assessment, shared governance, scheduling, quality review, staff development in-services, etc.). Accepts responsibility and accountability for ethical/legal functioning. Provides supervision for staff members as charge nurse, and assumes increasing leadership responsibility for professional practice on the unit.
Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school. BSN or BS in a health related field AND currently holds a nationally recognized certification preferred.
Must be currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Must possess the knowledge of clinical, psychological, and pathophysiological theories related to nursing diagnosis and treatment.
Can competently perform the range of nursing techniques found in general nursing practice, as
normally acquired through completion of an accredited nursing program.
Maintains current CPR certification.
Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs. and perform all functions involved in CPR.
Must successfully complete refresher nursing program if away from clinical practice for greater than five years.
Must have knowledge of/demonstrate leadership theories, teaching skills, and understanding of group dynamics.
Must pass the Nursing Pharmacology exam prior to administering medications.
Must possess the following certifications:
Medical/Surgical units (4th and 5th floors)- BLS
Emergency Dept.- BLS, PALS, ACLS
Critical Care (lCU, IVCU, PCC)- BLS, ACLS
Labor & Delivery- BLS, NRP, ACLS Mother/Infant Unit-BLS, NRP
Neonatal ICU-BLS, NRP
An essential function of this position is to comply with BSHSI Policy (SYS.HR.NUR.001) which requires, as a condition of employment, that all registered nurses with diplomas or associate degrees who apply and are hired after May 1, 2015 complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree within five years of start date.
