A new Nurse Resident program opportunity is available for the Oncology unit at the Henry Ford Hospital in midtown Detroit. The hospital is a Level 1 trauma center, research, and teaching hospital.Important notes about this program:• This is a program for new grads. Nurses with more than six months of experience would not qualify.• New grad Canadians are not eligible for this program unless they have a current Michigan nursing license and US visa screen certificate.UNIT OVERVIEW:• 40 bed unit with all private rooms.• Patient population encompasses all aspects of cancer care: medical oncology, inpatient chemotherapy, bone marrow transplant, hematology, hospice, palliative medicine, and Phase I & II clinical trials.• The vision of this unit is simple: To put patients first by providing each patient the comfort and quality of care we want for our families and for ourselves.• New nurses can expect a comprehensive orientation based on individual needs, staff dedicated to support your development with many learning opportunities.• Flexible scheduling opportunities.• Position: 36 hours per week• Shift: Midnight shift 7 pm to 7:30 am/Every other weekends after training• Benefits: Full time benefit packagePROGRAM OVERVIEW:Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) Nurse Residency Program is designed to assist the novice nurse transitioning from entry-level advanced beginner to competent professional nurse. The twelve month program will be facilitated by academic and clinical faculty/preceptors engaged in the progressive development of critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills. The RN Residency program supports the novice nurse in the delivery of safe, quality care within a collaborative inter-professional healthcare team environment. Additional support will be provided to the nurse residents in the form of peer groups, competency reviews and workshops.New nurses participate in a 16 week specific unit training program. They also participate in a monthly four hour group work session as part of a small group with a nurse facilitator to learn about and explore the following areas:• Professional development• Performance improvement and evidence based clinical practice• Ethical decision making• Stress management• Business of healthcareNew grad nurses can apply prior to taking the NCLEX. The requirements for the program are:• After the 16 week unit training the next 8 to 12 months the Nurse Residents meet with their group and facilitator to discuss and work on leadership, patient safety outcomes, and professional development.• Nurse Residents must pass their NCLEX within 90 days of hire. If one doesn’t pass the exam, they would be moved down to the Nurse Assistant position until the NCLEX is taken and passed the second time.• The Nurse Residents will complete an individual or group evidence based project.• There will be a two year commitment to the unit for participating in the Nurse Resident program.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with less than 1 year of experience in a related area of nursing practice.• Successfully passes NCLEX-RN and holds an active, unrestricted license within 90 days of hire. If unsuccessful, the RN Resident will be eligible to apply for a Nursing Assistant position until RN license is obtained.• BLS Heath care provider certification preferred. Successfully completes within orientation.• Sign a statement of commitment for two years in the program.
