Wisconsin State Government Nursing Consultant 2 (LTE) - Division of Medicaid Services in Dane, Wisconsin

The Department of Health Services (DHS); Division of Medicaid Services (DMS), Bureau of Benefits Management (BBM) is seeking applicants for a Nurse Consultant 2 Limited Term Employment (LTE) opportunity in Madison. DHS is located at 1 West Wilson Street in downtown Madison, near the state capitol, the Madison Metro route and the Capital City bike path.

Position Summary: These positions process prior authorization (PA) requests and prepayment reviews of health care services to establish medical necessity and appropriateness. These positions respond to appeals of PA denials and modifications, prepare legal position papers and serve as expert witnesses in legal proceedings. In addition, these positions maintain professional currency through participation in continuing education.

Due to the nature of the position, all applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow the Department of Health Services to conduct a security check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.


A minimally qualified applicant will have:

  • Registered nurse with unrestricted licensure in the State of Wisconsin.

  • Home health or private duty nursing experience.

  • Experience in at least 2 different clinical settings (note: this does not necessarily mean different employers, just unique clinical environments).

  • Experience and participation in the development or revision of guidelines and standards for medical related policies and procedures.

A well-qualified applicant will also have:

  • Experience with ventilation systems, durable medical equipment (DME), or durable medical supplies (DMS).

  • Training in medical coding.

  • Experience auditing medical records, claims documents, or financial records.
