Our current DNS has served us for 40 years and is retiring. Our Administrator who has over 20 years of service has lead us to be a local leader in providing long term and rehabilitation care.

The primary purpose of your job position is to plan develop, organize, direct and evaluate the nursing services department as well as its programs and activities for the facility. Such supervision must be in accordance with current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be directed by the administrator, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care can be maintained at all times. As the Director of Nursing services you are delegated administrative authority, responsibility, accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the nursing services department, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility. Participate in the developing, maintaining and updating of our written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day function of the nursing services department. Responsible for carrying out the resident’s care policies in the absence of the medical director. Ensure that the Nursing Service Procedure Manual is current at all times and reflects the day-to-day nursing care procedures used by this facility. Assist the Quality Improvement committees in developing and implementing appropriate plans of actions to correct and improve the Manor. Assist in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other residents services to ensure the continuity of the resident’s total regiments of care. Ensure that all nursing service personnel are following their respective job descriptions. Participate in developing, maintaining and periodically updating of the written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, studies, evaluations, etc., as necessary. Participate in the development, maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing services department. Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the nursing service department. Participate in survey inspections made by authorized government agencies. Serve on, participate in and attend various committee meetings of the facility (i.e. Infections Control, Safety Resident Handling, etc. Determines the staffing needs of the nursing services department necessary to meet the total nursing needs of the residents. Participates in interviewing and hiring of all nursing personnel. Supervises scheduling of nursing personnel within established guidelines. Assist nursing supervisory staff in dealing with problems with employees as they arise in a fair, consistent and effective manner. Make daily rounds of the nursing services department to ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Monitor absenteeism to ensure that an adequate number of nursing care personnel are on duty at all times. Ensure that disciplinary action is administered fairly and consult with Human Resources to determine any history and appropriate action. Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to assure that nursing and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents. Meet with nursing personnel, on a regularly scheduled basis to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services. Review medical records (nurses’ notes, assessments, summaries, etc.) to ensure that they are informative, descriptive and complete, reflecting the care provided and the resident’s response to the care. Encourage and approve staff nurse to attend and participate in outside training programs. Schedule times as appropriate. Attend and participate in continuing educational programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession, as well as to maintain your license on a current status. Responsible for the purchasing of supplies for the nursing department. Recommend to the administrator the equipment and supply needs of the department. Monitor nursing procedures to ensure that nursing service supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste. Review resident care plan for appropriate resident goals, problems, and approaches, and make recommendations for revisions. Oversite of all personnel involved in providing care to the resident is aware of the care plan and that care plans are used in administering daily care to the resident. Participate in the preparation of and planning of the nursing services department’s budget and submit to the administrator for his/her review, recommendations, and/or approval. Keep abreast of economic conditions/situations and recommend to the administrator adjustments in nursing services that ensure the continued ability to provide quality care. Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information. Monitor nursing care to assure that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect. Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy and that nursing service personnel knocks before entering the resident’s room. Ensure that all nursing service personnel are knowledgeable of the resident’s rights and responsibilities. Maintain a record of complaints and/or grievances made by the resident or their family and make a written/oral report to the director indicating what actions(s) were taken resolve the complaint or grievance. Anticipates and exceeds the expectations of our residents by providing exceptional health care balancing spirit, mind and body. Provides a comfortable, safe and attractive home for each resident that encourages supportive relationship. Meet the changing needs to the resident through innovative program. Organize and works with all departments provide programs/services to meet the needs of residents. Manages nursing service problems and emergency situations. Remains on-call at all times for emergency situations. QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a minimum of a nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved RN program. Must have, as a minimum, three (3) year’s experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or other related medical facility.
