Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represents the nursing division on key clinical research protocol committees including Institutional Review Boards and the Scientific Review Board.

  • Reviews all new clinical research protocols for nursing specific implications and makes recommendations for changes as necessary.

  • Collaborates with Principal Investigators, and/or research nurses and clinical research associates regarding the protocols.

  • Coordinates the nursing protocol education program for active treatment protocols.

  • Works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team. Communicates effectively with colleagues and other healthcare team members.

  • Initiates, develops and maintains ‘on-line nursing summary’ protocol education sheets.

  • Serves as nursing representative for activation sign-off of protocols and regimens.

  • Assists with the training and education of new research nurses.

  • Reviews protocol related violations and deviations for nursing specific implications and makes recommendations for practice improvements as needed.

  • Assists in review of sites applying to become satellite affiliates.

  • Adheres to the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (ANA, 2001) in all aspects of professional practice.

  • Complies with accepted standards of professional nursing practice, as well as with all licensure/registration requirements applicable to the nursing role.

  • Fosters an environment that is sensitive to the needs of diverse populations, including but not limited to culture, ethnicity, gender, and age.

  • Maintains BLS certification.
