Exempt (Salaried - Not eligible for overtime) To organize and direct the work of the assigned Nursing Unit. To coordinate staff to assure that effective nursing services are provided and quality standards are met. To develop and maintain an environment that supports the nurses and staff.
Work experience may NOT substitute for minimum education requirement. Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing and three (3) years of related experience.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILLS
Consults with patients/families through primary nurse request, direct family request or direct assessment of patient/family response to hospitalization. Assesses patient/significant other survey responses regarding nursing care and services.
Monitors/maintains unit compliance with regulatory, accrediting and hospital policy for patient services and environmental and personnel safety.
Oversees ongoing development of staff and unit-specific patient care programs.
Utilizes appropriate resources within the institution to provide consultation, education, technical or informational services as needed for self, staff and patients.
Identifies problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow-through and communication.
Develops collaborative working relationships with department heads, physicians and other resources/support personnel who provide services to the unit and patients as evidenced by observation.
Assists upper management in development, implementation and evaluation of ongoing service programs that ensure quality nursing and patient care programs consistent with the hospital mission.
Oversees unit PI Program, which monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care.
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS / REGISTRATIONS
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama Basic Life Support (BLS) required
