Responsibilities*

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Perform vital sign checks. Perform chem sticks. Assist patients with, or administer routine personal hygiene. Prepare patients for appointments. Ambulate, move and lift patients. Assist with feeding patients. Assist patients with bed pan and urinal service and record output. Assist nurse with admission, transfer and discharge of patients. Response to call lights. Work under the supervision of a professional nurse. Assist in obtaining and caring for equipment. Help maintain a safe, clean environment in the patient unit. Provide assistance with daily living as delegated by RN staff. Take vitals & administer blood glucose testing.

Required Qualifications*

Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities which include moving, transporting and positioning patients and equipment as well as constantly positioning self to provide patient care and related duties.

Departmental Requirements: High School Diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination education and experience. Current Nurse Aide Certification from an approved Nurse Aide Training Program. Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal: a) demonstrated ability to read, and b) demonstrated ability to interpret nurse aide assignment sheets and kardexes. Experience as a nurse aide within the past year in home care, hospital, or nursing home setting.

Work Schedule

Hours/Week: 24 Hours

Shift/Days: Days/Evenings

8 hour shifts involving working every other weekend & holidays according to scheduling.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the AFSCME union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
